Abena Joan Brown Summer Camp for the Performing Arts
Abena Joan Brown Summer Camp for the Performing Arts offers classes in movement, drama, and music for ages 7-13. Students experience a full day of learning in the theater environment. The curriculum also includes classes for lighting and sound, and stage management. They enjoy lunches provided by the Greater Chicago Food Depository. An additional feature is a week at Blues Camp where students receive training in voice or the instrument of their choice. At the end of Blues Camp week, families attend a showcase performance on the main stage where students have an opportunity to show off what they learned during the week. Students create their own showcase event throughout the remaining weeks of camp. At the end of the final week of camp, they present their showcase event which is completely staffed by students to family and friends.
Useni Perkins Play Writers Workshop
Often would-be playwrights have stories that they would like to tell and ideas that they would like to share with the public in the form of live plays. However, they do not have the knowledge and skills to turn these ideas into plays and share them with others. At eta Creative Arts Foundation we are committed to supplying students with the knowledge and tools required to get started with playwriting.
Upon completing this workshop, students will learn playwriting terminology, format scripts, build interesting characters, and review and enhance scripts while writing a short script.
