Character development, plot development, natural dialogue. Dates: 2.17.26 - 5.1.26 (10-weeks)
Service Description
If you want to write a play, but didn't know where to start, this class is perfect class for you. This course will focus on character development, storytelling, story structure, and so much more. It will give you the tools to begin your journey into writing for the stage. Playwright fundamentals involve developing strong characters ( distinct voices, backstories, motivations) and a compelling plot ( conflict, structure), all conveyed through concise, natural dialogue, and proper formatting. Core Elements: Concept: A one-sentence summary capturing the core idea, character, conflict, and stakes. Character: Create unique, well-rounded individuals with clear goals, backstories, and distinct voices that drive the story. Conflict: The engine of the story; build tension through peaks and valleys, leading to climax. Structure: Often follows a three-act structure ( beginning, middle end), with setup, inciting incident, rising action, climax and resolution.
Upcoming Sessions
Cancellation Policy
Eta encourages registering in advance. Eta may cancel a class that does not reach minimum enrollment 24 hours before the first class of the session. While eta does accept sign-ups the day classes begin, patrons should be aware that registration may be unavailable if the class is full or has been canceled due to low enrollment. There may be additional fees added to the event and registration cost. Tuition & Refunds: CLASSES Full tuition is refunded only for classes or workshops canceled by eta. No refunds will be offered once a class has begun, even if the student is absent for the first day of class. No make-up class will be offered if a student misses a class. If the patron no longer wishes to participate in a class they are registered for, they will receive a class credit to be used on another class offering within one year’s time. Registration ends the second full week of class. Classes may be canceled if the minimum enrollment is not met. For classes paid via invoice, the patron acknowledges that remaining payments must be made according to the set payment plan. The balance must be paid in full by the due date given. If payment is not paid in full by the given due date, patrons will not be able to participate in any future registrations until the outstanding balance is paid. Registration fees will not be prorated for classes missed during the session, nor will they be applied to another session. Not attending a class does NOT constitute an official withdrawal from a course or cancellation of tuition or fees. Payment Plans: eta offers a payment plan to patrons with a minimum purchase of $190 per session. Payment plans include a $25.00 set-up fee that is assessed when the payment plan is created. Membership discounts and sale prices apply. Membership does not apply to private lessons. Photography Release: By registering for a class, the patron grants eta Creative Arts Foundation permission to photograph or video their child’s participation in eta’s education programs. The patron also grants eta permission to use their or their child’s likeness for use by media publications and institutions that fund eta's operations and programs.
