eta Creative Arts Foundation is pleased to announce Pulse Theatre as its Resident Theater Company, marking an important milestone in the organization’s strategic vision for growth, sustainability, and expanded artistic impact on Chicago’s South Side.

As eta continues to build upon its 55-year legacy as a premier Black cultural institution, the resident company model represents a key component of its long-term strategy to increase artistic programming, strengthen community engagement, develop new audiences, and create additional opportunities for artists and students.

Through this partnership, Pulse Theatre will produce theatrical works at eta while collaborating on artist development, educational programming, audience engagement, and community initiatives. The relationship is designed to maximize the use of eta’s facilities and resources while creating a dynamic hub for creativity, innovation, and cultural expression.

The resident company model supports eta’s broader strategic goals by:

Expanding year-round artistic programming.

 - Increasing earned and contributed revenue opportunities.

 - Strengthening pathways from arts education to professional performance.

 - Supporting emerging and established artists.

 - Building new audiences and community partnerships.

 - Positioning eta as a vibrant cultural and creative hub on Chicago’s South Side.

Pulse Theatre’s commitment to innovative storytelling and artist development aligns closely with eta’s mission to preserve, promote, and advance African American arts and culture through performance, education, and community engagement.

Together, eta and Pulse Theatre will create new opportunities for collaboration, artistic excellence, and community impact while honoring the legacy established by generations of artists, educators, and cultural leaders who have shaped eta’s history.

This partnership represents not only an investment in the future of both organizations but also a commitment to ensuring that Black theater, arts education, and cultural expression continue to thrive for generations to come.
