Deborah Ross is an award-winning vocalist, songwriter, accomplished actress, and emerging visual artist whose career spans music, theater, and multidisciplinary creative expression. With a dynamic presence and a passion for storytelling, she has captivated audiences across stage, screen, and community spaces for over two decades.
Deborah’s theatrical and operatic work reflects both versatility and depth. She has performed leading and featured roles in productions such as Chicago (Roxy), A Raisin in the Sun (Mother), The Amen Corner (Sis Margaret), and The Color Purple (Celie). The Black Fairy and Bronzeville the Musical(Queen Mother). Her classical training is evident in performances like The Marriage of Figaro (Susanna), while her powerful portrayals of iconic figures including Sarah Vaughan, Nina Simone, Mahalia Jackson, and Leontyne Price showcase her ability to embody musical legends with authenticity and soul.
In addition to performing, Deborah is a visual artist creator. She has written and directed original works including Emanuel’s Way and Freedom’s Song, demonstrating her commitment to producing meaningful, culturally resonant art. Her work often bridges music, history, and drama, inspiring audiences while preserving important narratives.
As a musician, Deborah has performed with esteemed ensembles such as the Grant Park Symphony Chorus and has been featured on cable television showcases. She has also brought her artistry to contemporary audiences as a lead vocalist and instrumentalist with bands including Entyme and Wisdom. Currently she is the co-founder and lead vocalist for the rapidly emerging Spirited Ensemble blending gospel, R&B, and soul influences. Her talent has earned her top honors, including a first-place win in a major gospel competition.
Academically grounded, Deborah holds bachelor’s degrees in Music Education and Music Performance, along with a Master of Arts in Music Education. She continues to refine her craft through ongoing study in dance, opera, musical theater, and instrumental performance.
