This summer, The Acting Workshop Chicago at Hardworktellingstories presents Live Radio Theatre, an interactive journey back to the Golden Age of Radio.

Before television became a household fixture, families gathered around their radios to enjoy mysteries, dramas, comedies, and adventures brought to life through voices, music, and sound effects.

In this unique theatrical experience, audiences will not only hear the stories unfold but also witness how actors, narration, and live Foley sound effects work together to create the magic of radio storytelling.

The program begins with two original works.

​

Belinda's Bad Mood Day follows a young girl struggling through a difficult day when ordinary household objects unexpectedly spring to life, helping her discover new ways to understand and manage her emotions.

​

My Rosalie is a mysterious and heartfelt tale of a man searching for someone named Rosalie along a lonely highway, leading him on a journey filled with hope, memory, and longing.

Following a 15-minute intermission, audiences return for our featured presentation, Sherlock Holmes: The Adventure of the Copper Beeches. In this classic mystery, a young governess accepts a position with an eccentric family and soon finds herself caught in a web of strange and unsettling circumstances. Seeking answers, she turns to the legendary detective Sherlock Holmes and his trusted companion, Dr. Watson.

Following the performance, audience members are invited to stay for a talk-back with the cast and crew.

Guests will have the opportunity to ask questions about the production, learn more about the art of radio theatre, and even try some of the live sound effects used during the show.

Performance Length: Approximately 95 minutes, including one 15-minute intermission.

Optional audience talkback follows the performance.
